If HP is what you are after you will want to store that block in the shed and go find a 350 or 400 to start with. Not saying you can't get more hp out of the 307, just that you will spend a lot to make less than starting with a larger engine.

I could care less about the numbers matching, but liked the idea of sticking to the original block, but not if its going to hurt financially to do so, or give me less options for parts and bolt ons later.
Sounds like a 350/383 is still the route to go.
