Coming froma guy with no kickdown... it's a nice feature to have.
However, you can leave it unhooked with no major side effects. If you floor it and it should kick down, and is unable, the line pressure can get a little high, and it can shorten the life of the tranny, but we aren't talking like an overdrive that'll self destruct.
if you can run it, you should. If you don't, it isn't detrimental, but it will cause a slightly shorter tranny life.
