15W-40 for diesel engines is my oil of choice. I use Valvoline Premium Blue. I feel it's about as close to race oil for a gas motor as you can get without the high prices. This stuff usually goes for ~$12 a gallon and is available just about anywhere.

If you do not know the cleanliness of the inside of your motor, DO NOT switch to it, as it has lots of detergents in it that will break any sludge lose, which could potential clog the oil pickup. Only use this oil if you've seen the inside of the motor and know it's not gunked or sludged up.
