In your area, a 1st gen with no rust & all the original equipment would be worth a stack of cash. Do a search on collector car trader to get a ballpark idea of what they're going for.
Not to sound greedy, but take advantage of the fact that he's family. Don't cheat him, but try to see what would be fair for both of you. I've heard of K5's going for $15000 on ebay.
Just don't trash it if he gives you a great deal on it. And don't turn around & sell it for quadruple what he sold it to you for. I would almost give something to family, but if they turned around & sold it that would be the last thing they ever got from me.
