What you hear referred to as a "350" is a GM Turbo-Hydramatic 350, or TH 350, and it is a 3 speed automatic transmission, with 3rd gear being direct drive. People like them because they are common, cheap, and easy to build up..... basically the same reasons to like a 350 engine. If it's a manual you're looking for though, the TH350 is not for you.
