most likely it is a faulty ground. No clue where the aftermarket one grounds, but follow the pigtail to where it bolts to something (coresupport if it is like the original), unbolt it and clean/sand the metal. Reconnect it and see if that fixes it.
It's getting power, we know this becouse it lights up. But the power must have a good ground.
