You may not be aware but the original finish on the wood beds was a paint that matched the color of the vehicle. I have a 1971 longhorn, and the wood still shows some original green paint finish.

Julie...correct me if I am wrong but I believe that only the fleetside wood beds were painted the color of the truck. All of the stepside wood beds, I have seen, even in the Chevrolet brochures, were black. I always wondered if this was an option but I can't find it listed in my restoration manual either.
