Well guys my side business is wood working, so my shop is set up that way. I reused just the front face frames of some old kitchen cabinets. Then when I built the sides, I only made them no more then 16-18" deep. I did this because it always seems that in the deeper cabinets everything gets buried in the back. And then I went to Home Depot and bought those plastic 36 drawer compartent parts bins. It took me a couple of weekends,( more if ask the wife) but I put all the nuts and bolts and screws by size. Then I labled all the drawers fronts using the computer. That way the parts bins fits in there and it real easy to just open the cab. door and everything is in easy reach. I did the same thing for all hand and power tools. For those I just used adjustable shelving inside. The cabinets shelves are just as deep as the the tool and no higher then the tool. It sounds like alot work, but it really helps. I try not to have too much open shelving because it just draws too much dust, and lets everyone see whats in your shop. Wish I was closer to some of guys, I'd help you out building these cabinets. Sorry for so long of a post, just thought I'd pass along some ideas.
