Sure you can still buy R12...
if you take an EPA certification course and pass the test. I did it a few years ago. Forget how much it cost, but it was less than a pound of R12 freon.
Now I've got a 30lbs cylinder and a case or two of 12oz cans in the garage collecting dust.... just in case.
