The standard alternator was 37 amps and the AC altenator was
63 amps, not sure if there were more options. I have 63 amp alternators on some of my trucks and the gauge does not peg, so my guess would be that the gauge is set up plus or minus 60 amps. I have never seen a spec on the gauge however.
When your battery is fully charged, the gauge should be at neutral with the engine running at a fast idle and no accessories on.
The two ampmeter leads read the voltage drop over the main power feed and should be tied into the feed on the left side of the radiator and terminated to the junction block on the right side fender. The two wires should be part of your harness and it is just a matter of plugging it in to the back of the gauge panel if you have the gauge harness setup.
