Thanks Longhorn Man. I think rather than deal with the hassle of returns I will just drill out the roll pin and remove the adapter on the end. Then I will take my old shifter handle and cut of the end and mill it to fit inside the handle and install a roll pin below the surface and put a allen head set screw for added safety.
