My fleetside bed is Frankenstein'd together from a '62 and a '66. From working on the truck I noticed that thru the production run they implemented some cost cutting strategies. The tailgate hardware was bolted on in '62, but by '66 it was spot welded. Also, the support posts inside the bed followed the outer contour in '62 but by '66 were cut straight down. The final difference was the the top rail of the bed curves around into the bed and is nearly 1'' wide in '62; by '66 it is only about 1/4'', saving a substantial amount of metal over the run of truck production, I would imagine.
