'Scuse the old picture (my truck looks a lot better now), but it's the only one I have handy of the back end. My truck probably didn't have a rear bumper when new and this is what is on it now. Doesn't look too bad except it's a little bent out of shape on one side. I'm not sure if I will replace it with something similar or go with the standard rear bumper. I don't think they look that bad, but I fully understand what you mean about them looking like some kind of afterthought.
That is a '78 and up El Camino bumper a couple of posts up by the way.
