You do not have to have power brakes. There is manual disks, but beware, disks take more pressure to operate, and your leg will be doing more work. If you do stay manual, get a 71/72 proportioning valve. Also, if it were me, I would swap out the whole cross member. But it is a whole lot easier to do without the engine in the truck.
