Guys, taking the latch off is super easy.
All you have to do is unscrew it from the inside of the glovebox liner. The actual knob has to be in either the open or closed position, I can't remember, but the inside latch will only spin in 1 of the 2 positions. When unscrewing it, simply pull back slightly, away from the knob...and it will simply unscrew.
No tools required.
I have dont no less than 10 of them this way, worked every time.

Thanks bigblock73. I will give this a try. I could figure out how to do it once I started trying to replace my current box with the donor. You wouldn't happen to have the template you used for the factory speaker pods you got from Russell would you? I just pulled the same set up off of a 80" Surbuban that I am going to put on the donor doors (77' vintage) on my 82'
