I used a 74 drive train on the 59 frame and springs for my 4x4 conversion. I believe the frame and sping width is the same for the AD trucks, 34". Major issues are steering and brakes but not any worse than a disc or front clip conversion. Because the AD trucks are a little narrower the tires stick out beyond the fenders, you can decide if that is something you like for looks and practically (lots of crud thrown up on the sides of you rig if you use it). I would agree that you should stay with newer open knuckle stuff, easy to get spare and replacement parts.

Blackdiesel: are the jeep 44 axles narrower than GM?
