Man I to agree with not trying the swap. because unless your real energetic I see a project that doesn't get finished. If your wanting economy, Is your truck a 6 or 8 cylinder. If 8 find a good 250 straight six, and find a higher geared diff.
friend of mine is driving a 56 F100 stock 6 cylinder, 3spd trans, But he put in a 9 inch with 3:00 gears. that thing is getting close to 30 mpg's. It is sluggish on take off, but it does good when your a flying.
