pic's of my truck
Thanks , racedvl , for having put these pic's in here.
Hi Guys ,
No , I don't own these garages ( I would like to... )
Just renting one of them to put my garbage in it ( 1979 Yamaha XS650 SE , tyres , pieces & bits...)
About the licence plates , some information :
Don't know how it goes at yours , but once you got a plate here in Belgium , you keep it till you're put 6 feet below.
In some cases , you can allow the use of the plate to your wife or children , before you pass the way...
I don't know for now what I should do with this truck , it could use a paint job anyway. The original paint was silver with a burgundy red stripe.
What I know is that this truck has been imported in Belgium in 1979 , with a 350 Oldsmobile Diesel in it (yeah , sh!t happens...).
After a few engine breakdowns , I presume the owner decided to thrown that bloody engine , to put a 350 Olds gasoline engine( the only one that could be fit on the existing tranny ).
That happened in 1994
That engine needs now a good kick in his butt , pretty tired now.
Can still drive it at 85 MPH , but it lacks power in acceleration...
Maybe a big block , in a far future...
A special feature is that the cab rear window and the plate under have been disassembled to allow a passage in the bed , this is why they applied a rubber seal betwen the cab & the bed roof.
Don't know if this is an original GM fixture , don't think so.
About problems I already got :
-transmission shaft flew away while I was driving ( pretty interesting experience ) , loud bang , found the after part of the shaft between the rear axle and the bed. I was good for a walk that day , take the train , came back the day after with "Ye old reliable" Impala , dismantle the whole thing , went to the guy who sold me the new cross connection he just had put a few days before on that shaft , he was a little green ( I was a little red ) , he applied the warranty , no extra to pay , with the apologies of the house , etc , etc...
-oil leaks everywhere when I bought it , replaced a lot of gasket.
-fixed the fuel pump ( flexible problems , leaks... ) , God , is that rocking lever long...
-had to check the ignition ( distributor ) , as the engine ran on 6 cylinders , two cables were put wrong.
Once you know the ignition order & the position of the cylinders , you should have no troubles : just forget it !
It is the first time in my life I saw a distributor turning counterclockwise ( after 2 hours of search , a lot of F*** words in between ( in french , of course )).
Just have right now to dismantle the rear axle , to replace two ball bearings. Swervin Ervin sent me a scan of the instruction manual , thanks man.
I found a 2nd hand rear axle for 250 US$ , will go there saturday to take a look.
Still have to fix :
-front windshield ( cracked...)
-electric solenoide for the choice of gas tanks ( blocked )
-body work around the entire truck ( dents , holes )
That should be it , I think
The Baron
