Pigments and binders are expensive. Compare red paint to black paint sometime. Same paint except for the pigment and you'll see a 3:1 price difference. Plus there's a hell of a markup on this stuff. The factories all use water based paint so the specialty stuff does have a rather small market. Supply and demand .
