I've never delt with the second gen blazers but the first gens can be a pain in the back - literally. They weigh a ton. You need at least one more person to take it off. You might check into a soft top - especially since your in cali. There are a lot of second gen owners on the message boards on ColorodoK5.com.

Check the frame around the steering box. they are notorious for cracking. There are reinforcement kits available.
