I've used holleys for years and they are a pain, especially if the vehicle is parked for any length of time. They will make good street power though when tuned right. The edelbrocks are fine, same thing, must be tuned right. Nothing wrong with the Q-jets, as long as your not trying to drag race with it.
The hesitation now is because of either the accelerator pump cam, adjustment or spray nozzle size. All of these things have to be adjusted for any engine.
You can tune any carb without knowing the engine specifics, as long as you know the procedure for tuning the carb.
