Yes they do hang down below the frame a ways....don't remember exactly how much. I could measure one tomorrow.

If your budget allows, you might check out the "Vendor Marketplace" here in the classifieds section. There are two vendors here that build nice aluminum fuel tanks. I don't think they hang as low as the Blazer tanks.

You might also check out Lakeroaster's build thread. He installed a late 40's early 50's passenger car tank in his stepside. It doesn't hang too low.
