You stated that this truck has a NP203 transfer case, it is still "full-time"? or has it been converted?
There is a chain drive that works the front drive shaft, slack there can make all kinds of noises and/or vibrations.
This could very well be your "clunking".
There is also a fairly thin stamped drive ring that can cause problems in there too.
You didn't say if you could feel this vibration through the steering, but if so....I could be front axle-joint stiffness. This is very common too. A thorough front end servicing is probably in order anyway.
