THANKS for all the input.

I've cleaned the latch mechanism pretty good and it closes with a
nice click ---- but it just won't pop open when I release the latch.

I'm going to replace the hinges -- got them new this afternoon.

Any ideas on how to remove old hinges and install new ones ?
