I'm not a gear expert, but if he is fighting a noise problem, it seems to me that it would be best to change the pinion and ring gear as a set. Regardless, I would think it would be best to keep gears that have been run together as a set for 30+ together as a set. If so, you would want to buy a carrier bearing kit for the rearend, which would give you the crush sleeve as part of the kit. Another possibly easier avenue may be to replace the complete rear axle assembly, that way you don't have to worry about setting it up or paying someone to set it up. If they are not done correctly, you will have problems with noise and short gear life.
