The first hose originally connected to the distributer to cut advanve in third gear or high gear to redue emissions, there are electral relays that are on the firewall and wires that run to trans, the solenoid and in to the fuse panel, it is not nessary and looks like the previous owner just hooked the vaccum advance straight to the carb, so in effect the unit is inoperable as it sits.
The solenoid on the carb is to speed up idle when air is on, also known as fast idle solenoid.
you can take the washer pump out and use petroleum jelly on the "o" rings to reestablish the seals and the pump should work again. Don't expect much as the spray is weak at best.
As said before the handles have clips that require a tool to remove- if you have experience a small screw driver will do it sometimes, but $5 for the right tool and the clips come right out,plus no torn door panels.
