If you overheated it enough that it blew a head gasket you really need to take it apart and have a machine shop check for flatness on the deck and heads as well as inspect for cracks.
You also probably overheated the rings and caused them to lose a little tension so it will probably smoke more now if you don't replace them.
Take this as an opportunity to freshen up the engine and re-seal the whole thing. You are going to have it 75% of the way disassembled so why not finish the job. Rings and bearings are cheap.
