Are you referring to the compressor head or the electric motor that powers the compressor head? In most of todays home type compressors they are throw away if they have sustained any cylinder damage so in most cases you will end up buying at least a new compressor head if that is the case I would strongly recommend buying a cast iron cylinder two stage compressor unit look at Grainger and or McMaster-Carr for industrial rated electric motors and compressor heads the right air compressor with proper maintenance interval will last a very long time I have an air compressor I,ve had for close to 20 years it ran my body shop for many years and still provides all the service I need in my scaled down home based shop.As a side note in these tough times you could very likely find a shop closing its doors and pick up a good deal on one check Craigs list Ive seen just about any type of equipment a guy could want from lifts to front end alignment and all in between.
