Some may want to know why I installed the cam now and not later after the pistons were in. Its alot easier to help the cam in so you dont score the bearings and wipe off your lube. With it 3 inches out lube up your mains again,then install it all the way in and then touch up your lobes and its all good.
Although the main reason with a 383 stroker ( even a mild one like this) is to have the cam in place as a turning assembly to check each rod and piston skirt for clearance in a full rotation. It's already hard enough to see, but make sure the rod shoulder and bolts clear the side of the block next to the oil pan surface. Also when they swing up into the cam. The lobe on # 6 is very close.You may need to do some grinding to make it clear in these areas. Now is not the time though.Make sure of all this before you do you final wash.
