That's good advice about getting the book before starting your project. The cam you've chosen is pretty big, and IMHO, too much cam for an otherwise stock truck slated to cruising duty. If you wanted to keep it simple, I would recommend a 262 Voodoo hydraulic flat tappet cam/lifter kit. I installed one in a buddies 327 Vette. It sounds nasty at idle, and really woke the engine up, compared to the old Cam Dynamics cam it replaced. The 262 will offer a healthy idle, good vacuum, and excellent throttle response. It will also be easier to tune and keep tuned, which will add to the enjoyment factor. Just my $.02
