I would recommend using your current carb and headers and doing this,

9.5:1 compression
vortec heads, screw in studs, 1.5 roller rockers
comp cams XE 268 hydraulic flat tappet cam
edelbrock performer intake
HEI

This should make a great daily driver combo with power peaking from 5000-5500, and you should have plenty of torque, probably close to 400 ft lbs.

The thumper cams sound great, but you'll need a higher static compression ratio to run it and a better head to take advantage of the increased valve lift.
