Amazon.com: How to Rebuild the Small-Block...Those two books are pretty helpful. I think everyone else pretty much helped you get on the right track, i agree on the vortec heads and smaller cam than the one you chose. I would also mark everything when you take it apart, and keep the main bearings in order and take all of that with you to the machine shop. A decent engine builder can tell alot about what was going on with the motor by looking at all that stuff. And have the block magnafluxed to check for cracks.
