The only difference I am aware of is the universal is just that...a universal fit. The 73-87 is a direct bolt in...simple as that. The universal fuse box would have to be mounted somewhere other than the stock location...unless you can fabricate some bracketry. Even if you got that to work, you would then need to make a block-off plate to put where your old harness bolted thru the firewall. Remember, our trucks have two bulkhead connections that connect to each other on the firewall...one on the inside, the other in the engine compartment. To me, spending the extra dough was worth it and MUCH more convenient.
