Have you tried to take the VIN to your local license office and see if they would do a search to see what comes back on it? I know I had trouble with mine, because the plate had one set of numbers on it and the title/ownership had another. Come to find out there was an error with the licensing office, they typed in the wrong numbers when the orginial owner painted the truck, caused me a head ache to get it all straightened out.
