Custom 1987 GMC Crew Cab Short Bed

The frame is cut...

The stock short bed measurements were taken from the trailing edge of the rear bed mount bolt hole to the leading edge of the front bolt hole mount which came to 71 5/8".

To keep the factory gap between the cab and the bed I decided to make my cut 1 1/2" behind the front bed mount bolt hole.

Now remember, we are measuring from leading edge of bolt hole mount to trailing edge of bolt hole mount. It is always a good rule to measure from either a leading edge or trailing edge, but not from center. Many times bolt holes are not perfectly round from wear, or by design so find the edge of the bolt hole, measure back to a point of reference. The point of reference used should be relative in location for both chassis rail measurements. Make a scribe line that is equal in measure from the point of reference to the leading or trailing edge of bolt hole. *If I have lost you just refer to photo.
