Nothing looks cooler then opening up the hood of a truck and seeing a massive, chrome, open element, filter under there. And nothing sounds cooler then an open element when the quad opens up and starts howling.

However, the cold air induction is better. Traveling down the highway you are getting a ram air effect plus you are not sucking in that hot engine bay air. Hence why muscle cars use the ram air hoods, the cowel induction, etc, etc.
