I just replaced a 6 for a 6 last week, I pulled the front clip off, it was nice to just have it out of the way. I unbolted the engine from the bell housing, and left it and the trans in place. when I put the new motor in, I just wiggeled it onto the transmissoin shaft.
I actually did the job on 2 trucks, putting a better 6 in the one to drive, and putting the rough 6 in the other, if I could have dedicated unintirupted time to the process I would say 8 hours would be more than enough time.
