It's up to your personal preference. Last SM465 I rebuilt ran me about 75 dollars for the parts. One thing is for sure, you're not going to ever tear the 4 speed up unless you really try to do it. GM never used a stronger manual trans in a light truck.
You just have to ask yourself whether you will be happy with a clunky truck transmission or whether you want an auto or auto with overdrive.
