Are you just wanting to hook your ipod up to an amp and use the amp to power you speakers? I just did this in my 71 GMC. Install two speaker boxes and am and then I plug my ipod into the amp. I just bought a (red white) rca to headphone jack cable and plugged it into the rca on the amp. Works great actually and in total it cost me less than the price of a head unit that is Ipod compatible. I hid the amp and everything under the seat so the only thing you see is the headphone jack coming out from under the seat. If you have anymore questions just ask.
