I run 12.50/33s on 10" rims and very tired springs on my`72 K2500.With good body mounts you can run 12.50/35s and a 4" lift and 8" wheels.If you wheel really hard they can rub as well as many other numerous ways to damage the truck.If you wheel it that hard you might just want to cut the fenders.I either wheel`em or keep`em pretty.The keep`em pretty trucks run 4"/35s/8" wheels/uncut fenders.
Your buddy must not know that there are no off the shelf lift kits made for pre-69 GM 4wds.The springs are wider.I`ve known guys to put spacers between the spring eyes and the hangers.
