Fuel gauge install

OK guys, I got my gas gauge and going to try and install it this weekend. My question is should I drop the tank or pull the bed to gain access to the sending unit? And should I change the sending unit while I'm there? The gauge hasn't worked in a long time. My thinking is while I have everything down I should go ahead and change the sending unit as well. Do you all agree?
