If you're trying to run 3-year-old gas, it won't work well if at all.
Get the old gas out (siphon or pump it out with the fuel pump). Change the fuel filter. Put several gallons of fresh gas in it with a can of Berryman's Injector Cleaner. You may need to flush the fuel lines also. If it starts but runs really rough, you may have old gas dried on the spark plug insulators. Dried old gas is conductive, and they won't fire worth a flip. If it doesn't run smoother after about 5 minutes, clean them or replace them.
