Im running a 305 in my 85 short bed..When I first got it it was an absolute turd..It wouldnt get out of its own way..I yanked all the emission crap of there and added a flowmaster muffler dumped and an edelbrock 600cfm carb..This 305 is a beast now!!I swear it will lay down a 30-40 black strip easily.
