It will work, and work well, but this will be more of a project than you may be expecting unless you have done a manual to automatic swap before.

Your best bet would be to look for a donor vehicle, or you will be scrounging parts forever. Here are the MAJOR parts you will need: An automatic radiator, oil cooler lines, an automatic column or a floor shifter, shift linkage, a kickdown cable and bracket, a crossmember for the rear mount, a flexplate, and a starter. There were no TH350s before about 1969, so your donor truck should be in the 69-72 range.

The good news is that your stock driveshaft will work if you have a "short" TH350 (about 27" long). The bad news is that you will have to remove the bellhousing crossmember, and it is likely to be riveted in place.
