I put them onto my 78 to replace the rusty trailering mirrors. I used the top hole to locate the sport mirrors and filled the bottom two holes with the old mirror mounting bolts. It looks OK.
Eventually I will get around to installing the good doors I have with the factory sport mirror mount holes so the current setup is just temporary. It looks a whole lot better than the ugly rusty trailer mirrors.
In your case you will do it right when you paint the truck so it is just a temporary fix to get some better looking mirrors on there now. Paint the bolt heads body color and they won't bug you as much.
