He had to have cut the frame or the wheels would be out of alignment with the wheel well openings as a 67-72 SWB is 115" wheel base and a 73-87 is 117.5".

2-1/2" would be really obvious. Look to see if the wheels are centered under the wheel well arch. If they are then the frame was cut and shortened.

You can easily modify the location of the back of cab frame arch to put it in the right spot to work with a 67-72 cab while you are correcting the wheel base. It will allow you to mount the bed with only 3/16" steel shims under the bed rails rather than having to run a 3" body lift to correct for the mismatched frame curves.

I am half way through this same project on my 67. I got the bed mounted yesterday and I should be building the new cab mounts today.
