For the price, you really aren't gaining that much HP with the LS1 over a 5.3 or 6.0. But there is a good amount of weight difference. Best bet for good power and economy is the 5.3. If you are looking for more power, then look for a 6.0. Easy to make 500hp with a 6.0.

FWIW, I am getting 18-19 mpg in town, and 20-21 on the highway with a 5.3/4L60E. It was dyno'd at 266hp at the tires, which equates to almost 335hp at the crank. Plenty of power to move my 4000# brick right along.
