Here are some of the cast numbers to look for, these are 4 bolt and 2 bolt hi nickel blocks. 817,511,509.
Marv is dead on as always on the spayed 4 bolt set up on the money spent for the caps and machine work compared to the aftermarket Motown or Dart blocks.
The stock blocks are only going to be as good as the machine work. Make sure you have deck plugs put in the block. This will help with cylinder wall strength. If a guy wants to get a little radical he can also block fill up to the bottom of the freeze plugs. If this is done you should run a synthetic oil. The synthetic oil has a higher operating temp rang.
Remember that none of us are rich$$$$. So if we have to save a little more and build it a little more bad ass it going to cost less money down the road. Enough is never enough. We always want more.

6" Rods huh?
For whatever reason I was told to use the 5.7" rods for this setup.
Yeah I had a nice 509 casting block but had to do some trading and let it go. But I am looking forward to building one after I trash this 350 thats in my '72 right now. lol
