It will work, but you'll need the mounting brackets that are riveted to the frame, if yours didn't come with them. You'll need to have tools to drill out or cut off the rivets to get the brackets.

I just bought a pair of brackets from a member here, and got my bar off a 1980 truck from the pick-n-pull

As far as modifications, I had to remove 2 rivets from the very front cross-member to mount the brackets - all the holes are there.
