you are going to get a bunch of different opinions on this subject its one of the most colorful subjects I've seen discussed here. In my experience I have had the best luck with holleys they are pretty simple to work on and tune as I am no carb tech. I love the sound of a quadrajet being opened up , but in my experience they are not novice friendly , I've had a couple rebuilt and never felt like I had them tuned right( never tried one of the factory rebuilt ones) , most the new carbs( holleys and edelbrocks) are pretty much bolt on and go. not a big fan of the edelbrocks but a lot of guys love them. I have a holley 750 on my 454 and it performs well, this is a tough decision to make good luck
